This family photo appears to have been taken in front of the South Side Elementary School, Meridian, Mississippi.  James David and Carrie Price lived across the street from the school at the intersection of C Street and Rubush Ave.  We do not, yet, have the exact date or specific occasion for the gathering but it appears to have been taken during the spring or summer of 1940.  The version below is a restored copy of a photo submitted by Francis Earl Poythress (pictured on the far right side in the arms of his father).
