David E. Poythress (1/26/1805-9/26/1876) married (12/17/1827) as his first wife, Mary Speed Dortch. He married (3/15/1848) as his second wife, Sally Dortch (1818-).

David and Sally left Mecklenburg County and were living in Warren County, North Carolina, by the time of the 1870 census.

In the matter of the Administration of the estate of David Poythress} Befpore William A. White, Probate Judge. Charles D. Poythress being sworn doth say: That David Poythress, ;ate of said County, is dead, without leaving any Will or Testament; and that he the said C. D. Poythress is the proper person entitled to Letters of Administration on the estate of the said David Poythress.

Further, that the value of said estate, so far as can be ascertained at the date of this application, is about $300.00, and that James S. Poythress, Mrs. Mary E. Vaughan, G. W. Poythress, Chas. D. Poythress, Lucy M. Twisdale, Alice M. Twisdale, and the children of Mrs. Martha J. Tucker, a deceased daughter of the said intestate, names of the children are not known are entitled as heirs and distributees thereof. Chas. D. Poythress
