Jane Poythress (questionable)

Barbara Poythress Neal posted to the Poythress discussion list an analysis of a study appearing in the August 1985 issue of the Virginia Genealogical Society’s quarterly — Magazine of Virginia Genealogy which offers compelling evidence of how it became “accepted” that Thomas Rolfe, son of Pocahontas and John Rolfe, had married a Jane Poythress.

To date, there is no proof that a Jane Poythress ever existed and strong reason to accept that the account of her marriage to Thomas Rolfe was based on a mis-reading of a handwritten scribble on the flyleaf of a book — nothing more.
