About Jalisco, Mexico, Civil Registration Deaths, 1856-1987
Civil registration began on a national level in Mexico in 1859, though enforcement and compliance were not always strict at first. This collection contains civil records of deaths for the state of Jalisco. You’ll find the records in a number of different formats. Early records were often written in long, narrative-style entries. Later records appear on a variety of printed forms.
These records can contain a wealth of useful data. Depending on the form, they may include the following details—note that later forms typically include more data:
- name
- date and place of death
- father’s name
- mother’s name
- spouse’s name
- age
- gender
- cause of death
Remember that civil registration did not replace religious records, and you may be able to find evidence of your ancestor’s death or burial in church registers as well.
These records are in Spanish.
