Charles David Poythress (1849-1892), was the son of David Poythress (1806-1876) and Sally Dortch Poythress (1818-). He married Indiana Peru Twisdale (1852-1924) December 8, 1870 at the home of her parents, James H. Twisdale and Tabitha Basket Twisdale in Warren County, North Carolina. Charles David was a merchant, salesman and photographer. The large leather covered Bible was given to Barbara Poythress Wolfe (current owner) by her great Aunt Effie (seated in the family portrait). The Bible is stored in acid free paper in a dry area, but it continues to deteriorate. On the flyleaf in Charles David's hand is written: "Chas. D. Poythress Manson, N C June 17, 1873 At the very top of the page is the bold signature of "Jas. H. Twisdale" who was CDP's father-in-law.
