Alexander Poythress (1849 – 1906), son of Benjamin F. Poythress (1808 – 1865), 8th generation
George Alexander Poythress was the son of Benjamin Poythress and Susan Mary Williams (1825-1877). He married Ella Mae Davis.
[From the 9 Aug 1906 issue of the Lynchburg (VA) News: Death of Prof. Poythress.] Professor George A. Poythress, one of the best known musicians of the city, died yesterday shortly after 1 o’clock at his home, No. 1718 Church street, after an illness of only three or four days, his demise coming as a great shock to his family, who had no idea until a short time before the end that his malady was of such a serious character.
The deceased was 57 years of age and he is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters. They are: Mr. Leroy Poythress, Mrs. R. C. Cable, Harry, Clara, Mary Clyde and Corinne Poythress, all of whom are residents of the city.
For a number of years Mr. Poythress was the musical director of the old Hill City Franklin band, and of the orchestra at the old Academy of Music. At different times he was organist at the First Baptist church and the First Presbyterian church.
He was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and his sudden death will be received with sorrow by his large circle of friends throughout the city.

Harry M. Poythress (1875-) was the son of George Alexander Poythress (1849-1906) and Aurelia. Harry married Beulah Wilkerson 7/19/1907, in Durham Co., NC.
